Duterte says Ombudsman Morales will face impeachment case

(Updated 5:47, Oct. 4) President Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday said an impeachment complaint will be filed against Ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales for “conspiracy” to oust the President and “selective justice.”

“We will file an impeachment (case) against her (Morales) and I would tend to believe she was part of the conspiracy,” Duterte told reporters in a press conference in Malacañang.

The President believes Morales was part of the “conspiracy” to oust him through the investigations into his alleged unexplained wealth, which supposedly amounts to billions.

He said the grounds for impeachment would be “selective justice” and the use of “falsified documents.”

The President had earlier accused Morales of “selective justice.” He also said the Ombudsman was in possession of illegally obtained documents from the Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) regarding his and his family’s bank accounts.

The AMLC, however, denied it gave the Ombudsman copies of Duterte’s bank accounts.

In the same press conference, Duterte said he would also file an impeachment case against Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno for alleged corruption.

He cited Sereno’s alleged undeclared professional fee in the Piatco case with the government.

This was also contained in the impeachment complaint earlier filed by lawyer Lorenzo “Larry” Gadon.

“Pinadugo mo gobyerno sa ano mo sa attorney’s fees mo,” Duterte said.

The House Committee on Justice has found the impeachment complaint against Sereno sufficient in form and substance.

“I did not start this ruckus. Ang problema nagpadamay sila kay Trillanes,” Duterte said.

He had earlier said Morales and Sereno were being used by his political opponents to oust him. /jpv
