To help steel their resolve against “everyday temptations,” Bureau of Customs (BOC) chief Rozzano Rufino Biazon has proposed a “10-percent to 15-percent” raise in benefits for bureau personnel.
Biazon said that increasing the benefits of customs employees would help the Aquino administration’s anticorruption campaign, more so in the bureau which has become synonymous with graft.
“It is a fact that every day of their lives they are being tempted…. That is the reason we are asking our lawmakers to review the benefits offered to BOC employees,” Biazon said.
He said the administration could afford to give the increase, adding that he planned to discuss the proposal with members of the House committees on appropriations and on ways and means.
Biazon’s father, former senator and now Muntinlupa Representative Rodolfo Biazon, sits on the powerful House appropriations committee, which oversees the government budget.
“I think there is a certain Congressman Biazon that I could talk to,” the commissioner said.
