The Philippine National Police (PNP) released on Thursday a report indicating that only 2.5 percent or about 400 of the almost 16,000 recorded homicide incidents in the country since July 2016 are related to drugs.
In a press briefing, PNP spokesperson Chief Supt. Dionardo Carlos said that 15,911 homicide cases have been logged since the start of the Duterte administration in July last year up to September 15, 2017.
“Yung sinasabi natin na homicide cases iba-iba ang motibo dyan. Kaya lang po namin hinihiwalay yung drug-related is to show sa mga pilit na sinasabi na itong homicide, mga pagpatay na term na ito ay extrajudicial killings related,” Carlos explained.
According to Carlos, 39 percent or at least 6,000 of these cases have already been resolved, while the rest are still being investigated.
“This is to show that there is progress in all cases that are happening. Why? Una na-reresolba natin itong mga homicide cases na ito kasi hindi po tinitigilan ng pulls particularly ng investigation section at units sa iba’t-ibang police stations sa buong Pilipinas,” Carlos noted.
A homicide case is tagged as drug-related when the suspect is not a member of the PNP.
“Ito ay krimen na nagaganap sa lansangan. Ang napatay dahil connected sa droga, away sa droga at ang suspect ay hindi myembro ng PNP,” Carlos said. /kga
