Solano arrives at the Senate to attend hazing death probe

John Paul Solano, one of the prime suspects in the killing of University of Santo Tomas (UST) student Horacio “Atio” Castillo III, has arrived at the Senate hours ahead of the first hearing on the death of the 22-year-old law freshman scheduled at 6 p.m. on Monday.
A handcuffed Solano arrived at 4 p.m. and was escorted directly to the Senate’s sergeant at arms office.
Solano has been detained at the Manila Police District (MPD) after he turned himself in to authorities last Friday.

Three committees of the Senate— public order and dangerous drugs, justice and human rights, and constitutional amendments— are set to begin their investigation on the death of Castillo, who died of hazing purportedly committed by members of the Aegis Juris fraternity.

Solano is being linked to the incident. He is a member of the Aegis Juris fraternity.
Senators hope to uncover the loopholes in the Anti-Hazing Act (Republic Act 8049) through the hearings, and consequently introduce appropriate amendments to the law.
