The subprovince of Siquijor was separated from Negros Oriental province to become a province by virtue of Republic Act No. 6398. The municipality of Larena was then the capital of Siquijor. But after a year, the town of Siquijor became the provincial capital. The province’s population in 2015 was 95,984.
Sept. 18, 1875
The University of Santa Isabel (USI) in Naga City (formerly Nueva Caceres) in Camarines Sur province was established as a normal school for girls, seven years after it first opened in 1868. Ran and owned by the nuns of Daughters of Charity, USI (then Colegio de Sta. Isabel) is the first normal school for girls in the Philippines. In November 2001, USI was awarded university status.
