2 girls drown in Olongapo

OLONGAPO CITY — Two girls drowned in a beach resort here on Wednesday night, police said.

Gielyn Sebastian, 12, and Jocelyn Gallardo, 16, were swept away by strong currents off the Timaan Baloy Beach at 6:30 p.m., according to their 11-year-old companion, Joanna Arturo.


Arturo almost drowned but was able to cry for help and was rescued by villagers there.

Sebastian was pulled out of the water and brought to a hospital where she was declared dead on arrival.


Gallardo’s body was discovered in a village in Subic town in Zambales on Thursday morning.
