September was declared Anti-Rat Campaign Month by virtue of Proclamation No. 179 signed on Aug. 11, 1955 by then President Ramon Magsaysay.
A total of 910 suspected cases of leptospirosis, a disease caused by rat urine, were reported nationwide from Jan. 1 to Aug. 5, 2017, according to the Department of Health.
