SAN PEDRO CITY—A village captain in Tanza town in Cavite province and his four other kagawad (village officials) were arrested in a police operation against loose firearms on early Wednesday.
Supt. Daniel Alinas, chief of the police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon (CALABARZON), said they served eight search warrants against the village officials of Paradahan 2 around 4:30 a.m. Among those arrested was Chester Aron, the village captain.
The police recovered at least ten high-powered firearms, among them an AK-47 rifle and a hand grenade.
“We invited two other kagawad to act as witness (to the police operation) but one of them was also arrested as he turned up carrying a .45 (caliber gun),” Alinas said. He said the firearms were unlicensed.
Aron told the police that the firearms were meant for their “protection.”
“He said everybody including village officials in their place carried a firearm. We’ll look into that,” Alinas said. JPV
