DID YOU KNOW: Magsaysay’s 110th birth anniversary

Today, Aug. 31, is the 110th birth anniversary of the late President Ramon Magsaysay.

Before becoming president, he served as representative of the lone district of Zambales from 1946 to 1950 and defense secretary from 1950 to 1953.

In November 1953, he won the presidency and his inauguration was held at the Independence Grandstand (now Quirino Grandstand) in Manila on Dec. 30, 1953.

He died in a plane crash on March 17, 1957 and was interred at the Manila North Cemetery.

A boulevard was named in his honor in Sta. Mesa, Manila. Marielle Medina
