Tension grips Mandaue demolition

TENSION ran high when 70 security guards destroyed the fence of a disputed vacant lot in barangay Subangdaku, Mandaue City, yesterday morning.

Residents in the area threw stones and bottles at the guards, who retaliated by firing warning shots.

About 50 residents tried to stop the demolition team as there is ongoing case to resolve the real owner of the lot.

The demolition team was hired by one Jonas Sy, who also claims as owner of the lot in sitio Lower Malibu.

Cora Mather, 50, one of the residents in the area, said they were forced to throw stones and bottles after the guards fired shots.

The commotion stopped when members of the Special Weapons and Tactics arrived.
