Kennon Road closed to traffic Friday night to prepare for ‘Jolina’

BAGUIO CITY-Kennon Road would be closed to traffic at 8 p.m. on Friday, as the city prepares for typhoon Jolina.

The century-old zigzag road suffers rock slides during heavy downpour.

Motorists driving up to Baguio City would need to take Marcos Highway or Naguilian Road, until further notice, said Alberto Gahid, Cordillera assistant director of the Department of Public Works and Highways.

In a separate advisory, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources suspended hiking and trekking at Mt. Pulag and Mt. Purgatory in Benguet province.

In Mountain Province, the Sagada Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) suspended caving activities in Sagada town.

The Department of Tourism cautioned visitors to take extra precautions during the long weekend break.
