DID YOU KNOW: Comelec was created in 1940

/ 05:00 AM August 22, 2017

Commonwealth Act. No. 607 signed on Aug. 22, 1940 created an independent Commission on Elections (Comelec).

The commission immediately functioned on Sept. 14, 1940 and supervised the December 1940 elections. It was reorganized in 1941 as a constitutional body.

The Philippine Constitution of 1973 and 1987 provided for the creation of an independent Comelec with powers and functions of enforcing and administering election laws.
