Lanao del Norte mayor arrested for possession of guns, explosives

DAVAO CITY — Police in Ozamiz City on Saturday arrested the mayor of Kolambugan, Lanao del Norte and three others after they were found in possession of guns and explosives.

In a report, the Ozamiz City police said Mayor Lorenzo Mañigos of Kolambugan was on a pickup truck with three other males and were entering the port of Ozamiz when flagged down at a checkpoint.

Mañigos had told investigators he was returning to his town via a ferry and that the four firearms were licensed.

However, the Ozamiz police said, upon verification, it turned out that the guns had expired licenses.

Also allegedly recovered from Mañigos’ vehicle were four grenades.

The mayor and his three companions – who turned out to he his bodyguards – were detained at the Ozamiz City Police Station while charges were being prepared against them. –Allan Nawal /atm
