‘Love triangle’ eyed in cop’s killing of nurse in Batangas

BATANGAS CITY — A policeman shot to death a nurse in Agoncillo town in Batangas province late afternoon Wednesday, police said Thursday.

Senior Inspector Amiel Sanhi, Agoncillo police chief, said Police Officer 1 Justin Feliciano Colona allegedly gunned down Darrel Irvin De Claro, 28, who was reportedly the new boyfriend of the policeman’s former girlfriend.

Colona, assigned to the 3rd Maneuver Platoon of the Quezon provincial police, fled after the shooting but was arrested in a follow up operation at his house in Barangay Pamiga, also in Agoncillo.

Sanhi De Claro, 28, a municipal nurse, was on his motorcycle going to a basketball court in Barangay Poblacion at about 5:30 p.m. when he was repeatedly shot by Colona.

The victim suffered bullet wounds in the head and body. He died on the spot.

Colona reportedly fled on a motorcycle but was arrested at about 7:30 p.m.

Sanhi said they were looking at “love triangle” as the motive for the killing since the suspect was allegedly obsessed with winning back his former girlfriend of two years who was already in a relationship with the victim for the past two months.

Recovered from the crime scene were three spent shells and a slug from a caliber .45 pistol. CBB
