QC cop shot dead ‘could be wrong target’

MANILA, Philippines—A Quezon City policeman who was shot dead on Tuesday in his car parked in front of a car repair shop could have been mistaken for another intended target by his killers.

Senior Police Office 3 Arnold Yu, of the Quezon City Police District, was sitting inside his car along Visayas Avenue Tuesday afternoon when four armed men forcibly took his black bag at the back of his car.

“The robbers could have spotted him sitting alone in his car and mistook him for a Chinese businessman because he looked like one,” said Police Officer 3 Joselito Gagaza, of the QCPD-Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit.

Yu sustained gunshot wounds in the nape and in the head and died on the spot.

An investigation showed that Yu was able to fire his service firearm, but another suspect who acted as a lookout shot and killed the policeman.

Based on witnesses’ accounts, the suspects, who were on board two motorcycles, took a black bag from the victim’s car after he was shot.

Gagaza said that according to a text message to Yu’s wife found in his cell phone, the policeman was in the area to have his white Toyota Avanza repaired in the car shop.
