A CEBUANO retail chain is confident that it can compete with major retail chains that has now opened branches in Cebu with the opening of their their neighborhood retail chain brand.
The Metro Gaisano Group recently opened their Tita Gwapa Metro Supertinda outlets in Basak, Lapu-Lapu City; Minglanilla town; Tabunok in Talisay City ; Umapad and Tabok in Mandaue City, and Punta Princesa in Cebu City.
Ruby Rodriguez, Metro Gaisano Group vice president for marketing retail group, said they are confident the new brand will help them strengthen their presence especially in smaller neighborhoods.
“This brand will carry all the basic goods that are needed at home. They can conveniently shop in our stores and save time instead of going to department stores,” Rodriguez said.
The rise of smaller supermarket stores in communities outside Metro Cebu is a trend they expect major retail chain brands to follow.
“Tita Gwapa Metro Supertinda caters to very basic needs of these communities and because the brand Tita Gwapa is already known there, we are optimistic that the market will still patronize us.”
Tita Gwapa, formerly owned by F3 Properties, was bought out by Metro Gaisano Group early this year. Reporter Aileen Garcia Yap
