COTABATO CITY – Unidentified motorcycle-riding men have shot dead a municipal councilor along the national highway in Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao, police said on Thursday.
Senior Supt. Agustin Tello, Maguindanao police provincial director, said Guialulson Guimel Angan, 54, councilor of Talitay town, was driving his motorbike when two men on separate motorbikes opened fire on him on Wednesday afternoon (July 26).
He died of multiple gunshot injuries after the 4 p.m. attack.
Tello said the gunmen quickly fled heading toward Talitay.
Responding police found six spent shells for a .45-pistol.
Tello said the identities of the attackers and the motive remained unknown as of Thursday.
He said an old grudge, drugs or politics could be behind the murder.
Talitay was among the towns named by President Duterte as having an active illegal drug trade.
Its town mayor, Montassir Sabal, who was tagged by Duterte as a narco-politician, remains in hiding. Sabal had denied he was into illegal drugs before he hid. SFM
