2 marines shot dead in Palawan town

PUERTO PRINCESA CITY – Suspected New People’s Army (NPA) gunmen killed two marines Wednesday morning in Roxas town in Palawan province, the military said.

Armed Forces Western Command spokesperson Capt. Cherryl Tindog said the marines were buying things for their detachment nearby when attacked in Barangay (village) Magara at about 8 a.m. Both died on the spot.

Some residents said the victims were buying food when shot.

Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan) police report identified the slain soldiers as Private First Class Joene Galiste and Private James Melchor Porol.
