Rizal village chief killed near day care center
SAN PEDRO CITY, Laguna — A barangay (village) chairman in Teresa town in Rizal province was shot dead in front of a day care center early on Monday.
Supt. Maria Lourdes Usana, spokesperson of Rizal police, said the victim Arvin Zapanta, 44, Barangay San Gabriel chairman, was standing in front of the village-run day care center when motorcycle-riding gunmen fired shots at him.
Zapanta was killed instantly. No one else was hurt in the attack.
In May, Teresa municipal councilor John San Jose and his wife Ma. Theresa were also killed in an ambush by motorcycle-riding gunmen, while Edwin Carillo, an employee of Barangay Dalumbaya, was killed in a shooting that happened in the village hall in that same month. SFM
