Palace: Supt. Marvin Marcos eligible to return to service

Malacañang on Thursday said Supt. Marvin Marcos was eligible to return to service despite facing homicide charges.

“The President respects and abides by the rule of law. Police Superintendent Marvin Marcos has served his suspension and is eligible to be back to duty,” Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella said in a statement.

Marcos was earlier charged with murder in connection with the killing of Albuera, Leyte Mayor Rolando Espinosa Sr. but was downgraded to homicide by the Department of Justice (DOJ).

The Philippine National Police (PNP)-Internal Affairs Service (IAS) had earlier recommended the suspension of Marcos and the 18 other policemen involved in the Espinosa killing.

“PNP Chief Ronald dela Rosa has confirmed the resolution of an administrative case which favored Police Superintendent Marvin Marcos and the 18 other policemen in Leyte linked in the Espinosa killing,” Abella said.

“We leave the matter to the Philippine National Police -Internal Affairs Service (PNP-IAS) to explain its decision,” he added.

The Palace official said “the case, however, maybe be appealed to the National Police Commission (Napolcom).” JE
