CA presiding justice is Duterte’s 3rd SC appointee

President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed Court of Appeals (CA) Presiding Justice Andres B. Reyes Jr. as the 177th Associate Justice of the Supreme Court (SC).

He will be taking the position vacated by Associate Justice Bienvenido L. Reyes who compulsorily retired at the age of 70 on July 6, 2017.

Reyes, 67, will have a three-year stint as a high court magistrate. He was born May 11, 1950.

He was appointed to the CA in 1999 and served as its one of its presiding justices beginning 2010.

Prior to his stint at the CA, he was a Metropolitan Trial Court judge in Makati in 1987 and in San Mateo Rizal in 1990.

He is the grandson of former SC justice Alex Reyes, and son of former CA presiding justice Andres Reyes Sr.

Reyes is the third appointee of Duterte to the SC. His two other appointees were fellow San Beda Law graduates Samuel Martires and Noel Tijam.

Reyes is a graduate of Ateneo Law and a member of the Fraternal Order of Utopia, where House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez is also a part of. IDL
