LUCENA CITY – A bet collector of the government-sanctioned Small Town Lottery (STL) was shot and killed by a lone gunman in Sariaya town in Quezon province on Monday night, police said Tuesday.

Supt. Hermogenes Cabe, Sariaya police chief, said Marvin Cabaysa, 32, was on his way home aboard his motorcycle when he was attacked by a man on another motorcycle along Maharlika Highway in Barangay Sto. Cristo at 10:30 p.m.

Cabaysa died from bullets wounds in his back.

Police discounted robbery as motive behind the killing, saying they recovered the P51,235 that Cabaysa was carrying. Police believed the money was intended as a prize for a winning bettor.

Cabe said police also recovered a .45 cal. pistol loaded with seven bullets from Cabaysa. JE/rga
