The Philippine Constitution Association (Philconsa) urged the Supreme Court to prevent a constitutional crisis by stepping in in the standoff between the Court of Appeals (CA) and the House of Representatives over the detention of the so-called “Ilocos Six.”

In a statement, the group said the Supreme Court should be the “final arbiter” in the feud.

The statement was issued by Philconsa Chair Manuel Lazaro and President Ferdinand Martin Romualdez.

Philconsa also asked the court to regard the incident as an “administrative matter” after embattled members of the CA’s Special Fourth Division sought guidance in dealing with the “unexpected unorthodox reaction” of the House.
