Forty families were left homeless in a fire that broke out on Saturday morning in a Quezon City residential area.

At least one person was injured in the blaze that destroyed at least 20 houses on Pearl Street, Sitio Kislap, Barangay Fairview.

Authorities said the fire started at the two-story home of Wendelyn Wales around 9 a.m. and raged for about half an hour before it was declared out by responding firefighters, who required 37 fire trucks to contain the blaze.

Damage to property was estimated at P150,000, while a resident identified as Roy Tinada, 39, sustained a hand injury, according to Senior Supt. Manuel Manuel, Bureau of Fire Protection district marshal. —Nikka G. Valenzuela
