The end is near, says Duterte on Marawi siege
President Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday night said the Marawi siege would be over “in a matter of days.”
“The way it’s evolving now, I think it will be a matter of days. Before the end of the month, matatapos na (it will end),” Duterte said in a speech at Camp Quintin Merecido in Davao City.
“We are winning the war, do not worry,” he added.
The Marawi siege has been going on for more than a month now after government troops raided a house to arrest Abu Sayyaf leader Isnilon Hapilon and other suspected members of the Maute Group.
The raid triggered the month-long standoff in Marawi, which has claimed more than 300 lives. JE
