LUCENA CITY – A truck filled with an estimated 10,000 board feet of coconut lumber believed to be illegally cut was intercepted by police in Mulanay town in Quezon province, police said Thursday.
A report from Quezon police headquarters said policemen conducting mobile patrol in Barangay (village) Sta. Rosa around 11:00 a.m. Wednesday chanced upon a ten-wheeler truck being driven by Joel Oribe.
Aside from Oribe, police also arrested six other truck helpers after they failed to present the necessary permits for their cargo from the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA). Police tagged a certain Digna Francia Lastrilla as the alleged owner of the illegal coconut lumber.
The suspects and the seized lumber were turned over at the PCA local office in nearby Catanauan town for proper disposition. JE
