The Taguig City Veterinary Office is looking for new homes for nine of 45 rescued dogs currently staying at the city-run animal shelter.

“These rescued dogs deserve new homes with caring families. This initiative expresses the intention of the city that every ‘Bantay’ has a right to be taken care of,” Mayor Lani Cayetano said in a statement on Sunday.

Most of the dogs were strays caught by barangay officials or were surrendered by owners who could not take care of them anymore.

“The whole adoption process is free and open to all Taguigeños,” said Dr. Alexis Siblag, head of the veterinary office.

He assured the public that the dogs were not aggressive and were free of any contagious disease. The veterinary office has been preparing the dogs for adoption since last year.

“Interested city residents need only to visit the Taguig City Veterinary Office, fill out an application form, choose their desired dog and submit themselves for a background check prior to the release of the animals,” Siblag said.

Prospective pet parents also need to visit the pound at least three times to help them and the dog become familiar with each other.

“These dogs have been spayed and neutered to avoid reproduction since one of the program’s purposes is to also control animal population,” Siblag said.

For more information, the Taguig City Veterinary Office may be reached at 811-8919.
