The light truck ban on Edsa and Shaw Boulevard has been extended until Sept. 15, based on the regulation issued by the Metro Manila Council (MMC), the policy-making body of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).

The regulation prohibits trucks with a gross capacity weight of 4,500 kilograms and below from plying Edsa and Shaw Boulevard (from Mandaluyong City to Pasig City) from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. and between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m.

“Travel speed and time survey showed that this traffic intervention measure has been effective so it was extended,” Cris Saruca of the MMC Secretariat said on Sunday, during the agency’s weekly radio program.

The original MMDA regulation imposed the light truck ban from March 15 to June 15 to speed up travel time on the major thoroughfares.

The regulation provides exemptions for government vehicles such as the ones used by the military and the Philippines National Police. Emergency vehicles like fire trucks and ambulances are also exempted.
