Village councilor shot dead in front of wife in Sorsogon

In another attack, trike driver killed in Gubat town

LEGAZPI CITY, Albay — Two people, including a village councilor, were killed by unidentified gunmen in two gun attacks in Gubat town in Sorsogon province Tuesday, police said Wednesday.

Pedro Espineda Esperida, 44, Barangay (village) Bentuco councilor, was shot in front of his wife outside their house at around 8:20 p.m., Chief Insp. Jimmy Pintor, Gubat police chief, said. The motive for the
shooting was unknown as of Wednesday.

Supt. Nonito Furio Marquez, Sorsogon police spokesperson, said the victim and his wife were asleep when the gunman woke them up and invited them to talk outside.

The killer, once outside, drew a gun and fired at Esperida, ignoring the pleas of the victim’s wife. He, then, boarded his motorcycle and left.

Minutes before the shooting in Bentuco, Alfredo Faune Espidido, 40, a tricyle driver in Barangay Naagtan was shot by two unidentified gunmen in front of his house, Pintor said.

Espidido’s wife heard multiple gunshots and found her husband dead, said Pintor.

The victim died while on the way to Gubat District Hospital.  SFM
