Ex-Bulacan mayor arrested for kidnapping, homicide

ANGAT, Bulacan — Former Angat Mayor Apolonio Marcelo has been arrested after he was implicated in the March 28 kidnapping and homicide of a woman and a man.

The former mayor was tied to the deaths of Edeltrudes Tan and Jayson Puyo by a 53-year-old truck driver from the City of San Jose del Monte, who surrendered on May 30, said Senior Supt. Romeo Caramat Jr.,
Bulacan police director.

Details about the abductions were not released at press time.

Armed with search warrants, the police arrested and detained Marcelo on Sunday (June 4) following the simultaneous raids of his home here and a house in Sta. Maria town where police recovered human remains, according to a police report.

Forensic examiners are currently examining the remains to determine their identities.

Marcelo was also caught in possession of guns and ammunition, as well as expired gun licenses.

Marcelo was elected mayor in 1998. He is currently serving as the village chief of Barangay Pulong Yantok.  SFM
