June 6, 1952
Zamboanga province was divided into Zamboanga del Norte province, with Dipolog City as its capital, and Zamboanga del Sur province, with Pagadian City as its capital, by virtue of Republic Act No. 711. In 2000, the third district of Zamboanga del Sur became Zamboanga Sibugay through Republic Act No. 8973.
June 10, 1969
Batangas became a city through Republic Act No. 5495. Batangas came from the word Batangan because of the batang or logs that surrounded the Calumpang River when natives discovered and settled in the province.

Article continues after this advertisementRepublic Act No. 6657, or the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Law, was signed into law by then President Corazon Aquino, placing her family-owned Hacienda Luisita in Tarlac province under land reform. The program was supposed to end in 1999 after 10 years of implementation, but it failed to meet its target. The latest extension was named Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program Extension with Reforms, which was passed in 2008.
