18 people surnamed Maute want to clear their names

Eighteen people, including a two-year-old boy, who were labeled as “members of Maute clan” went to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to clear their names.

The group were among those prevented from leaving the country for having Maute and Bandrang as surnames.

Their lawyer Dalomilang Parahiman said 10 of them have Maute surnames but they were not related to the Maute group that sparked a clash in Marawi.

Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre tasked the National Bureau of Investigation to hold the probe.

Pahiraman said the group were mostly businessmen. They were supposed to fly to Saudi Arabia as part of their obligation for their religion.

The members of the group, including the children were presented during a press briefing.
