COTABATO CITY – Mayor Cynthia Guiani-Sayadi on Wednesday placed this city on high security alert following a terror outbreak in Marawi City that may spread to adjacent areas in Mindanao.

Sayadi enjoined constituents in the business, academe, and other institutions to stay vigilant against lawless individuals who may plan to sow terror in the city.

“Let us be very vigilant to tighten our own security measures,” said Sayadi, a survivor of a bomb attack here in 2013.

The Maute terror group has been blamed for its recent offensive in Lanao del Sur that prompted President Duterte to declare a 60-day Martial Law.

Sayadi called on all government assets and force multipliers to report suspicious-looking individuals in the city. She asked establishments to check baggage and other hand-carried items for explosives and other deadly weapons.

The city’s joint police-military task force is leading the anti-terror watch.

“The safety of our city lies in our hands. In this time of fear, we must all work together in keeping our communities safe and secure,” Sayadi said.  CBB
