Pregnant woman dies in Quezon road accident

LUCENA CITY – A woman who was about to deliver her baby was killed in a road accident in San Narciso town in Quezon province on Wednesday, police said Thursday.

Police said the victim, Jennifer Cadavis, 20, was aboard a tricycle with four of her relatives on the way to the hospital to deliver her baby when the vehicle lost its brakes while negotiating a descending curve section of the road in Barangay (village) San Juan around 9:30 a.m.

In a phone interview, Senior Police Officer 1 Isagani de los Santos, case investigator, said the victim was thrown out of the vehicle and landed on the side of the road, seriously injuring her. Both the mother and the baby died while being taken to a hospital in San Narciso town.

The motorcycle driver, Benjamin Paclibar, 51, also sustained minor injuries. Police said Paclibar and the family of the victim agreed to settle the case amicably.  SFM/rga
