Metro Briefs: More traffic choke points up for clearing—MMDA

12:02 AM May 10, 2017

After its success in the Baclaran area, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will step up clearing operations in other traffic choke points, Quiapo, Divisoria, Balintawak, Cubao, Monumento and Alabang. “We want to continue these operations and strike while the iron is hot, so to speak, and while we have the momentum on our side,” MMDA general manager Tim Orbos said on Tuesday. “Everyone thought that clearing and cleaning Baclaran is an insurmountable task but nothing is impossible if we work together,” Orbos said, adding that the agency would use the same “consultative approach” in ridding other areas of illegal terminals, parked vehicles, sidewalk vendors and other road obstructions. The agency recently opened four lanes to traffic in Baclaran, as well as Roxas Boulevard’s service road from Vito Cruz to Kalaw. —Erika Sauler
