LUCENA CITY, Quezon – A motorcycle driver was killed and his back rider was seriously injured in an accident along the Maharlika Highway in Atimonan town in Quezon province early Wednesday, police said.

Reports said victim Wilfredo Alcantara, 54, was traveling to Manila aboard his motorcycle when he was accidentally sideswiped by a still unknown vehicle running in the opposite direction in Barangay (village) Balubad around 1:15 a.m.

With the strong impact, back rider Jern Hally Tuazon was thrown off and landed on the shoulder of the road but Alcantara was run over by an incoming Philtranco passenger bus being driven by Manolito Pontipedra.

The victims were brought to the Doña Marta District Hospital in the town proper but Alcantara was declared dead on arrival. Tuazon sustained serious injuries.
