MANILA, Philippines—Pilar Hidalgo-Lim spearheaded the women’s suffrage movement in the Philippines and co-founded the Council of Filipino Women to work for women’s rights. Born on May 24, 1893, she was a former Centro Escolar University president, and was the first woman to graduate with honors, cum laude, from the University of the Philippines. Married to Gen. Vicente Lim, she served on the Board of Censors for Motion Pictures, as well as on the Parole Board. She died on Dec. 8, 1973.—Schatzi Quodala, Inquirer Research
