DID YOU KNOW: Philippine Veterans Week

12:42 AM April 05, 2017

Philippine Veterans Week is observed from April 5 to 11 by virtue of Proclamation No. 466 signed on Sept. 14, 1989, by then President Corazon Aquino. According to the proclamation, the welfare of war veterans is a concern of all freedom-loving Filipinos and residents of the Philippines. It states that the principles, ideals and deeds of veterans should be promoted and preserved to enhance patriotism and love of country, especially among the youth. The proclamation was amended in 2007 by then president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to cover not only war veterans but also men and women who served in military campaigns, among others. —Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
