Charice Pempengco dad’s killer charged

SAN PEDRO, Laguna, Philippines—Murder charges were filed on Friday against suspect Angel Capili, the self-confessed killer of Ricky Pempengo, the father of international pop star Charice.

Russel Pempengco Mehira, the elder sister of the victim, filed a complaint affidavit against Capili  at the Office of the Provincial Prosecutor here on Friday morning.  She was accompanied by Ricky’s wife Raquel and daughter Charice.

It was not clear why Mehira was the one who signed the affidavit instead of Raquel, but according to Charice’s manager, Grace Mendoza, “it was because (Mejira) was the first one (in the family) who was there (right after the murder).”

“Raquel’s family anyway was present (during the inquest) to give their support,” said Mendoza.

Capili, a construction worker, surrendered to authorities on Thursday and admitted to killing Ricky Pempengco in Barangay Laram here on Monday but insisted he did it in self-defense.

Ricky has been living separately from his wife Raquel since they separated when Charice, now 19, was only three years old.

After the inquest, Charice and her mother proceeded to the Divine Mercy Viewing Chapel in Muntinlupa City, where her father’s remains lie.
