Taguig to broadcast student graduations online
The graduation rites of some 13,000 primary and 8,000 secondary students in Taguig City public schools will be broadcast live online to enable their faraway relatives to take part. “Students and their families can now share their academic milestones with their loved ones outside our city [through] the internet and live streaming,” Mayor Lani Cayetano said in a statement on Wednesday. The live videos can be accessed through the Facebook page, “I Love Taguig.” The city government, which started the e-Graduation in 2012, said no fees would be collected as togas, the graduation venue and refreshments would be provided for free. “We want to [ensure] that these activities will be memorable for the students, also to their beloved parents, that is why we want to make it enjoyable and comfortable for them,” Cayetano said. She also encouraged high school graduates to continue their education as Taguig City offers scholarships at its own university. It also has a P625-million scholarship fund for students admitted to the country’s top universities. —Erika Sauler
