KORONADAL CITY — Unidentified gunmen shot dead a barangay kagawad (village councilman) of Barangay Lapu, Polomolok, South Cotabato, Sunday afternoon.

Senior Inspector Hernan Gabat, police chief of Polomolok, identified the victim as Norman Nilong, 46, and chair of the village council’s committee on peace and order.

Gabat said Nilong was talking to his uncle, Lapu village chair Abdula Nilong, at a waiting shed in the borders of Barangays Lapu and Sulit when two men on board a motorcycle arrived at 4 p.m. and repeatedly shot the councilman in the head and body.

Nilong died on the spot while his uncle managed to run for his life and took cover.
