Son of ex-QC village chair among arrested druggies

An antidrug raid by the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) before dawn on Saturday led to the arrest of seven people, including the son of a former barangay chair. Members of the QCPD Special Operations Unit searched a compound on St. Anthony Street, Barangay Holy Spirit, on a tip that drugs were being sold there. Arrested was 43-year-old Bienvenido Aquino Jr., son of the former barangay chair and an alleged drug supplier who had buyers in Metro Manila and in Quezon, Bulacan and Pampanga. The other suspects were identified as Allan Jay Sison, 30; Dominic Macandog, 22; Enderson Luna; 39; Randy Roy Galapon, 44; Mary Jane Legaspino, 30, and a minor. Found during the raid were 15 sachets of suspected “shabu” valued at P50,000, a sachet of dried marijuana leaves, two pistols (a .38-caliber and a .22-caliber), a hand grenade, three katana swords and several bullets, the QCPD said.—Jhesset O. Cops await kin of man who jumped to death in mall

The police are looking for the relatives of the 32-year-old man who died after jumping from the fourth floor of a mall in Cainta, Rizal, on Friday. The man identified as Arnel Delagoa, a native of Leyte province, was recently released from the National Center for Mental Health (NCMH), according to a community leader who is familiar with his condition. Delagoa had no known relatives living in the capital and only stayed in a friend’s house at Lower Citadel, Barangay Dela Paz in Antipolo. According to Roselyn Reyes, a purok leader who served as Delagoa’s “guardian” in the barangay, she helped bring him to the mental hospital on Jan. 11 after he started to become violent. Reyes said Delagoa was discharged from the NCMH in Mandaluyong City without her knowledge and that she only learned about the release when Delagoa was reported dead. Supt. Elpidio Ramirez, Cainta city police chief, said Delagoa fell from the fourth floor of Sta Lucia East Grand Mall around 2:30 p.m. Before landing on the basement floor, he hit and injured 16-year-old Chantal de Villa of Barangay Santolan, Pasig City. Delagoa died on the spot while De Villa received treatment at the mall clinic. His remains were brought to Heaven’s Gate funeral home in Antipolo.—Jodee A. Agoncillo
