DAGUPAN CITY—The sunflower maze and gardens in Tayug town reopen today (March 25) after it closed on Feb. 28 for the rehabilitation of plants and flowers damaged during a tourist rush last month.

“As we reopen the garden landscape and the sunflower labyrinth, we hope to give you the feeling of being a Filipino farmer,” said an announcement posted on the Facebook page of the Allied Botanical Corp. (ABC).

The showcases laid out on the company’s 3-hectare demonstration farm in Barangay C. Lichauco feature the country’s first sunflower maze, bloom fields and vegetable gardens.

ABC said visitors would now be treated to a 1,000-square meter sunflower labyrinth, garden landscape and bloom fields, and herb and gourd patches.

“[The sunflowers are] not as tall as and as big as before due to the hot weather. You don’t have to grab [them] because they are just chest level. But you can clearly see the path and you will not be lost forever,” ABC said.

“We wish to remind everyone to bring sun gear, like umbrellas, sunglasses and hats due to the hot weather. Also, let us all be responsible tourists who follow rules and respect the plants in the farm,” it said.  —GABRIEL CARDINOZA
