Suspected communist rebels set fire to truck in Surigao del Norte

MANILA, Philippines — Suspected communist rebels set fire to a truck in Surigao del Norte Thursday, a police official said on Friday.

Superintendent Martin Gamba, spokesman, said the truck with plate number KEK-893 was owned by one Antonio Cubil.

The incident happened at around 8:30 a.m. at Purok Mam-on in Tubo-Tubo village, Cagwait town, he said.

Quoting the initial investigation by the Cagawit police, Gamba said the truck was being loaded with lumber when the suspects shot the vehicle’s fuel tank and front tires.

No one was reported hurt in the incident, he added.

Gamba said police were determining the identities and motive of the suspects.
