The Commission on Higher Education (Ched) on Tuesday announced the opening of nominations for its scholarship grants for graduate studies of faculty members affected by the transition to the K to 12 program.
In a statement, Ched said all public and private higher education institutions can now nominate both teaching and non-teaching staff deloaded by the K to 12 program for full scholarships for master’s or doctoral studies, where a monthly living allowance of P20,000 and P28,000 will be provided, respectively.
Tuition and other fees will also be fully covered, Ched said.
Ched chairperson Patricia Licuanan said both displaced faculty members and those separated from their employment due to the K to 12 Program were qualified to apply for the local scholarships.
“We recognize that the implementation of the K to 12 is taking a toll on enrollment in our institutions, as well as the teaching loads and income of our faculty. Let’s focus on turning these challenges into opportunities by upgrading their qualifications and skills and keeping them employed. We enjoin all HEIs to explore our scholarships and grants, and work together to address these challenges,” Licuanan said in a statement.
“While we continue to make significant progress in providing wider access to higher education, we are also making unprecedented investments in our faculty and academic institutions. CHED is equally committed to ensuring that this is access to quality education,” she added.
According to Ched data, 3,272 personnel have been displaced from their schools since the full implementation of the K to 12 program last year. Ched predicts a “worst-case scenario” of 12,253 personnel will be displaced this year.
Ched is also accepting applications for its Sectoral Engagement Grants, where both teaching and nonteaching staff “may engage in immersion and extension work in industry, civil society, and government partners to align their instruction with actual field practices.”
Deadline of nominations and applications for graduate studies scholarships and the 2nd quarter rollout of the sectoral engagement grants is on March 31. Nominations and applications should be submitted online through https://online.chedk12.com.
