In 2016, there were 9,264 new human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) cases recorded nationwide, according to the Department of Health. In the month of December alone, there were 750 new HIV cases recorded while for the whole year, there were 439 reported deaths. —Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
