Palace releases cost breakdown of Duterte’s foreign trips

The attendance of President Rodrigo Duterte to the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) in Peru was the his most expensive foreign trip since he assumed office in June 30, 2016, records from Malacañang showed.

Presidential spokesperson Ernesto Abella said Duterte’s 12-nation trip cost the government P277 million but his trips yielded at least $5.85 billion in investments.

His trip to Peru for the Apec and his side trip to New Zealand cost taxpayers P86.558 million.

Malacañang provided the breakdown of the expenses:

September 5 to 9: Attendance to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) in Laos People’s Democratic Republic and working visit to Indonesia— P29.876 million

September 28 to 29: Official working visit to Vietnam— P14.082 million

October 16 to 21: State visits to Brunei Darussalam and People’s Republic of China— P45.266 million

October 25 to 27: Official visit to Japan — P28.305 million

November 9 to 10: Official visits to Thailand and Malaysia official visit — P23.721 million

November 17 to 23: Peru and New Zealand — Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation — P86.558 million

December 13 to 16: State visits to Cambodia and Singapore — P49.578 million
