Uncle suspect in death of niece, 6, in Tabuelan

A 6-year-old girl was killed yesterday in barangay Villahermosa, Tabuelan town, North Cebu.

Lara Mae Concoles died on the spot when she was allegedly hacked to death by her own uncle, Efren Matedios, 29.

Initial investigation revealed the suspect wanted his niece to sleep with him and got angry when Lara Mae’s grandmother, Pablita did not let him.

PO2 Winston Ybañez, desk officer of Tabuelan police said the suspect mauled Pablita who ran away, leaving her granddaughter in their house with the suspect.

While Pablita was away looking for tanods to help her, Matedios hacked Lara Mae to death with a bolo.

One of the responding tanods saw the suspect eat the liver of the child. Upon sensing the presence of the tanods, the suspect fled.

Responding police officers recovered the bloodstained bolo. Lara Mae sustained hack wounds in her head and cuts on her abdomen.

Ybañez said the suspect removed the intestine, liver and other internal organs of the girl and placed these on plates.
Lara Mae’s mother was in barangay Poblacion when the incident occurred.

Ybañez said the mother and grandmother were still in a state of shock.

Lara Mae’s body lies in state in the Tabuelan Sports Complex but it will be subjected to an autopsy.

Ybañez said they are still pursuing the suspect and will check if he was under the influence of drugs or is a “cult” member.

The suspect will be presented at Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) when he is arrested.

Parricide charges were filed against Alfredo Taglucop, a 29-year-old man who hacked his one-year-old son to death in Tabuelan in December last year.
