SAN PEDRO CITY — A man who jumped off a passenger ship in Batangas province has been declared missing by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), days after a search in the vicinity turned futile.
In an online statement on Friday, the PCG identified the man as Norman Canto, 33.
PCG said Canto was onboard M/V April Rose when he jumped off between Fortune island and Calatagan, Batangas, on Feb. 12.
“Due to unfavorable sea condition, the personnel of Coast Guard … were not able to deploy their search and rescue team (and) instead conducted a foot patrol along the coastal area of nearby barangays,” the statement read.
Canto, according to his siblings Shirley and Anaclito, was mentally unstable, the Coast Guard added. CBB/rga
