DAVAO CITY — Classes in primary and secondary levels in both private and public schools here and in other Davao provinces have been canceled because of non-stop rain since Wednesday.
In an advisory, the Office of the President said President Rodrigo Duterte ordered the suspension of classes here as Orange alert has been raised in the Matina area. Matina hosts several schools such as Ateneo de Davao High School, the University of Mindanao, and Philippine Women’s College.
Flooding has also been reported in some parts of the city.
In Davao del Norte, Gov. Anthony G Del Rosario also declared a suspension of classes in the primary and secondary levels in private and public schools due to persistent rain, according to provincial information chief Sofonias Gabunada.
Similar orders were issued by Davao Occidental Gov. Claude Bautista for areas in his province.
In Davao Oriental, classes in 15 schools were also suspended as well as in Compostela Valley areas.
Southern Mindanao has been experiencing rain since Wednesday morning due to the tail end of a cold front. CBB
